About Blue-Waverly
Blue is a professional creative based in NYC. She is an anthropology and fashion editorial enthusiast who began her career while earning a master’s degree in social work (MSW) from the University of South Florida. She went on to intersect her ongoing work in [and studies of] marginalized communities from her background in social work, with cultural expression and identity, through fashion and visual arts. Her value for storytelling has cultivated an eclectic career in photojournalism, wardrobe styling, and art direction over the last seven years.
No matter where she turned, she was attempting to understand and interpret the stories of the unseen, and Black life. Now, she is committed to the Fashion Communications and Marketing program at Parsons School of Design to form the unification of her backgrounds, and produce work that increases visibility to cultural truths.
about the work
Led by curiosity, determined by faith, and executing through creativity. Blue-Waverly practices advocacy and loyalty with an unclenched fist for anything she believes in, especially a vision she knows needs to be seen through. One of her biggest strengths is research and meticulous intentionality in communicating ideas. She considers most, if not all, making disciplines to be languages that are readily available for use when expressing a message, and so she explores new mediums freely.
She likes to have fun, and has found her best ideas come from play, pondering, and unique or genuinely humane experiences. She thrives in environments that allow space for creativity to take a lead, and conformity a backseat. She has a large and growing interest in music, archiving, and film; both still and motion.
She formerly graduated from ONE School, an advertising portfolio program for Black creatives founded by Oriel Davis-Lyons, CCO at Mother, and the ONE Club for Creativity.
HELLO
HELLO
“Hey! I’m Blue. Y’all alright? Need anythang? Thanks for stopping by to learn a little about me, I appreciate it. My southern twang comes out a little bit when I’m comfortable, and you’ve made it to my lil’ corner of the internet.
I grew up in Jacksonville, FL, but lived in a Kenyan home. I’m a first-generation American and I love immersing myself into culture. My family being migrants, I’m always interested in others’ stories and where they come from. As a creative, I always enjoy finding new ways to tell them.
I’m that girl who does at least a little of a lot, and still finds space for anything else that calls to her. I’m passionate about whatever I’m doing, and enjoy pushing for the best. I’m looking forward to meeting all the folks who hold a shared vision, and using the art forms and skill we see fit to get it out into the world. I’ve welcomed the opportunity to learn a lot over the years just to be of service in that way.
But hey, listen, while y’all here, don’t be all shy. Gon’ and say something back by reaching out on my contact page when you’re finished being nosey. Alright now, talk soon.”
